You can find the front panel header by looking in the motherboard manual. Most manuals will tell you what pins are for what, so it should be easy to understand if you read them carefully.
For instance, the following image shows just how easy it is to find your Front Panel Connectors on a motherboard. I have Gigabyte GA P67A UD3, and their location was precise for me right away:
Another important thing to note is that the Front Panel Connectors may be called the “front panel header on some motherboards.” They essentially do exactly what their names suggest.

Start by finding the pin headers of the motherboard on its circuit board. A lot of motherboards have a label that tells users where they are located.

It’s essential to consult your motherboard as to what the physical labels indicate because, in some instances, such as with my device shown above, there can be some unique connectors that will confuse you.
Here are some features that my pin connectors have:
- + MSG – Message LED (Power/Sleep LED/Message/ Yellow/Purple LED) – Indicates the PC’s power status.
- + CL – Chassis Intrusion Header (Gray LED) – The sensor will detect if your PC case cover has been removed. The only problem is that it requires a specific type of computer chassis to work, so this may not be an option for everyone.
Make sure you connect the cables from your PC case to their respective pins. On my FPanel, I connected two wires that would go into the Power Switch button for this purpose (the image below shows where they are).

It would be best if you could prepared a front panel connector cable before making one yourself. All it takes are some thin gauge wires cut cleanly in half with the ends stripped, so they are easier to connect to the headers/pin connectors on your motherboard or case.
